MITRA Fellowship

The Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA), a state-level think tank inspired by NITI Aayog, is committed to propelling Maharashtra toward a trillion-dollar economy by 2027. In August 2024, MITRA partnered with the Piramal Foundation for Education Leadership (PFEL) to launch the Young Professional Fellowship—a strategic initiative to build the capacity of early-career professionals through structured, experiential learning.

Structured, Real-World Learning at the Grassroots

The fellowship blends classroom-based governance training with district-level immersion, giving fellows firsthand experience of policy implementation on the ground.

Designed to bridge the gap between policy design and on-ground execution, the fellowship builds a pipeline of technically skilled, empathy-led changemakers who work across Maharashtra’s public systems. Through close mentorship and experiential learning, fellows support governance reform, improve service delivery, and drive long-term transformation—one district at a time.

Interventions

  • Structured Induction: Intensive onboarding with boot camps covering governance, policy, and implementation strategies.
  • Field Immersion: On-ground exposure to real-world governance challenges and multi-stakeholder engagement.
  • Ongoing Mentorship: Continuous support from senior policymakers and domain experts to guide growth and reflection.
  • Leadership Development: Focus on self-awareness, collaboration, and influencing without authority.
  • Policy Skill Building: Training in data-driven policy drafting and strategic communication across 10 key domains.
  • Monthly Deep-Dive Sessions: Regular sessions to strengthen technical, strategic, and implementation capabilities.
  • Talent Pipeline Creation: Developing future-ready professionals to lead sustainable governance efforts in Maharashtra.
